Degassers & Master Alloys

Degassers

NO. 66 ALLOY

NO. 66 ALLOY contains components that absorb oxygen and other gasses during the melting cycle of Nickel Silvers, eliminating spongy and porous castings. Typically, additions of ½ to one percent, introduced several minutes prior to pouring and plunged to the bottom of the melt using an iron stirring rod, will produce the desired effect. In a tilting furnace, the degassifier should be dropped into the stream after the transfer ladle is approximately 20 percent full. No. 66 is manufactured in ingot form.

NO. 77 ALLOY

NO. 77 ALLOY addresses problems that occur when melting Aluminum Bronze and Silicon Bronze alloys. Gas is absorbed during the melting cycle and released as the castings solidify, creating small “worm” holes. Typically, additions of ½ to one percent, introduced several minutes prior to pouring and plunged to the bottom of the melt using an iron stirring rod, will degasify the melt and greatly improve fluidity. In a tilting furnace, the degassifier should be dropped into the stream after the transfer ladle is approximately 20 percent full. This alloy is produced in ingot form.

Safety Data Sheets

Master Alloys

Manganese Copper

MANGANESE COPPER is an excellent deoxidizer and desulphurizer when used in the manufacture of Cupro Nickel and Nickel Silver alloys. It also improves the properties of Nickel in Nickel bearing items like Monel and Ni-Resist. It is frequently used to introduce Manganese into both wrought and cast copper based alloys. Manufactured in ingot form, the alloy is 30 percent manganese with less than one percent impurities.

Silicon Copper

SILICON COPPER is an excellent reducing agent in the casting of Copper and Copper based alloys. It also serves as a hardener and strengthening agent for Copper. With a melting point slightly under 1600 degrees F, it offers a decided advantage over adding pure Silicon (melting point 2588 degrees F) to copper alloys. Manufactured in ingot form, the alloy is offered in 10 percent, 15 percent and 20 percent concentrations with less than one percent impurities.
